Our Offerings – Advancing Laboratory Excellence & Accuracy

Service Overview

Proficiency Testing Australia, a not-for-profit registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, is Committed to Public and National Benefits through Proficiency Testing.

Proficiency Testing

PTA assists organisations in preparing for accreditation of their Proficiency Testing (PT) programs to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17043:2023 Conformity assessment – general requirements for proficiency testing. Our services include assisting with sample sourcing, homogeneity testing, labelling, packaging, transport, customers clearance and distribution of samples. In addition, we provide guidance on the analysis of proficiency testing data and report preparation.

Method Validation

Our team provides statistical expertise to validate laboratory methods, ensuring accuracy and compliance. We assist in data preparation, selecting appropriate statistical techniques, interpreting results, and tailoring services to specific testing fields.

Data Analysis

We specialise in the preparation of data for analysis, involving a comparison of methodology, statistical manipulation of data, analysis of trends, correlation etc. All data is analysed by a qualified statistician using accepted statistical procedures.

Reporting

We provide comprehensive reports that incorporate detailed graphical data representations, statistical analyses, and overall performance insights. These reports are designed to facilitate accurate data interpretation, identify significant trends and deviations.

Quality Management

PTA assists organisations in establishing and maintaining robust quality management systems aligned with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17043:2023. This includes internal audits, corrective actions and system documentation reviews.

Specialist Technical Services

PTA draws on a network on industry experts, to provide high-level technical consulting to complex and specialised requirements.

Analysing Results- Ensuring Accuracy & Reliability

For testing programs, a laboratory’s performance is typically assessed by comparing its results to consensus values derived from all submitted data. We utilize statistical procedures based on z-score calculations, allowing us to assess variations both within a laboratory and between laboratories.

For calibration programs, results are compared against values established by a reference laboratory, considering measurement uncertainties. Performance is then judged using the En ratio, ensuring a fair and precise evaluation.

At the completion of each program, participants receive a comprehensive final report detailing submitted results, statistical analyses, graphical presentations, and overall performance insights, along with a summary sheet highlighting key findings.

Programs

Elevate Your Laboratory Standards with PTA Programs

Testing Programs – Enhance Your Laboratory’s Performance

These programs involve the distribution of sub-samples of a material for testing by participating laboratories.  The results are analysed statistically with each laboratory receiving a report detailing its testing performance.  Proficiency Testing Australia offers a wide range of  testing programs covering most areas of testing including:

Biological Chemical Electrical Mechanical Non-Destructive Construction Materials

Most of Proficiency Testing Australia’s testing programs are continuous with one to six programs offered each year.  National accreditation bodies use the results of Proficiency Testing Australia’s programs to monitor the competence of their own accredited laboratories.

Measurement Programs – Precision Calibration & Compliance

Proficiency Testing Australia offers an extensive range of calibration programs, covering a broad spectrum of calibration disciplines, including but not limited to:

Acoustic & Vibration Electrical Heat & Temperature Physical & Dimensional Metrology Optics & Radiometry

These programs involve the circulation of a measurement artefact (or set of artefacts) among multiple laboratories performing the same measurements.  Where a single participant is involved, the activity is referred to as a Measurement Audit.  Laboratory performance is typically assessed by comparing their measurement results to established reference values. The artefacts used are fully characterised and accompanied by up-to-date calibration data and reference values to ensure accuracy and consistency.
