The use of marine bioproducts in medicine is emerging. A $59m federal government grant has been awarded through the Cooperative Research Centres to enable further research in this area.

Some of the uses of marine bioproducts include nutritional supplements, soil fertilisers toothpaste and paint.

It is anticipated that this grant will assist with further development in discovering different molecules that have applications in tissue regeneration, biomedicine and pharmaceuticals.

The seaweed molecule is being developed to assist with wound healing.

Australia coastlines are covered with unique species and molecules and the ocean offers opportunities for so many different types of products.
